"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

5 miles / 8:21 avg. Got started around 10:30 AM, temps in the low 80's is feels a lot more comfortable than just a couple of weeks ago. Also, I seem to be having better recovery between runs -First 3.5 miles on the LPT then 1.5 miles barefoot on the grass.

10 miles / easy. From home - clark/fairground/glover loop. Mid to low 80's and I was soaked by the time I finished. Felt worn down. Maybe the heat and poor sleep. Or perhaps I'm 40 years older than I think I am.

10 miles / easy. From work. Sunny, temps in the mid to high 70's. I tried to freshen things up a bit by running on different streets and different patterns around town. Very thirsty today. Stopped at Emerald park (mile 4) for water, then at Chevron (mile 7.5), and again with just a half mile to go at the high school track.

25 miles / 10:19 avg. LSD on the Rail Trail today. Elevation ranged from around 5,480 ft. to 6,380 ft. (compared to my usual runs at around 4,500 ft.), I left my house about 6:15 AM and made the hour drive to Wanship where there is parking and access to the rail trail, and a restroom also. My run started at 7:22 AM. I ran towards Echo Reservoir first, turning around just after 7 miles and about a 300 foot drop, then came back, climbing the 300 ft. Back at my car, I refilled the water bottle, took a big drink, grabbed some fuel, then took off the other direction heading towards Park City. I knew I need to go about 5.5 miles out before turning around to get 25 miles. The run towards PC is a steeper hill, climbing about 600 feet by the time I turned around. Shortly after turning around I suddenly felt like crud. There happened to be a picnic bench in the shade just ahead, so I sat for a couple of minutes and collected myself. I was disappointed that I wasn't going to be able to take advantage of the 5 mile drop back to my car that I had earned from climbing. Luckily after I got going again I felt a lot better. No bonk. Still, kept it pretty slow those last few miles. Thankfully heat was not a factor today. Probably about 60F when I started and mid 70's when I finished. I figure I took in about 500 calories during the run. I ate a slice of bread before I left the house and a banana on the drive up. A good long run for me.

For accountability's sake, I want to mention that I intend to get a three day total of at least 45 mile over this holiday weekend - I think that would be a record for me. If I can manage 10 miles tomorrow and Monday I'll get it. But any variation will do.
