"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

7 miles / 8:54 avg. from work. after 2.5 miles i did 15 x 30 second hill repeats on golden ave. then easy peasy back to work.

edit: i meant to mention this yesterday when i logged this run. i started these doing these hill repeats (on golden ave.) two or three months ago. i've been semi consistent in hitting them about once a week. this series had me realizing that i've come a long way since struggling through 6 x 30 second repeats the first time or two - these 15 had me feeling stronger with each one up until about the 12th or 13th, then had enough to finish the last couple strongly. it's nice to see some progress.

10.2 miles / 9:00 avg. commute to work. 3 easy, 4 @ MP (fail), 3 easy. pretty tired this morning, so i wanted to try some marathon paced miles, (goal 8:15 per mile). splits for the failed tempo 8:31, 8:10, 8:09, 8:29 (4 miles - 8:20 avg). oh well - it took a lot of effort today just to do what i did. i knew i was tired. i figure this is good practice for the late stages of a marathon.

am - 5 easy miles around the hood near work.  9:34 avg.

pm - 10.2 miles / 8:49 avg. commute run home. taking advantage of a rare cool summer afternoon (73F). i don't run a lot of doubles but whenever i do, the second run usually feels better than the first. today was no exception.

a cold that i've been able to be in denial about for a couple of days hit me hard late yesterday. woke up and ran in a snotty fog.

2 miles - from home to the mouth of farmington canyon and back. this cold i've had the last couple of days knocked me out of going to allie and james wedding bells 5k this morning. i'm disappointed - i decided to take a break today, just two easy miles to keep the streak alive and wash some of the funk out of my head and lungs. good time to cut back on the mileage anyway.
