"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

11 miles - i had a smidge of work to attend to this afternoon so i ran to the shop (and i'll drive a work van home). sun, temps in the low 50's. perfect weather except for the wind. "oh when will i run, by the wind unfettered?". slow, tired legs today.

4.2 craptastic miles. LPT from front runner. i think i'm going to pull back on the miles for the rest of the week, feeling fatigued the last couple of days.

3.5 miles  / boardwalk loops at the nature preserve. low 50's, light rain. wow - i don't really know what to think now after three days of only being able to cover 3 or 4 miles, and uncomfortably at that. i was thinking today i would be fully recovered but would run only 6 miles just to be safe. i'm kind of perplexed at this point. my legs aren't tired or sore, i just have no drive. could this be a some sort of neural fatigue? i'm supposed to run home from work tomorrow afternoon, a minimum of 9 miles, and i have zero confidence that it can be done. i'm just going to have to ride this out - i'll run 3 miles a day for a month if i have to - but it kind of sucks.

9 miles / 8:38 avg. commute run home. such a relief after the first couple of miles and i realized things were back to normal. i tend to not freak out about all the little niggles, and fluctuations that a runner experiences on a day to day basis, but i was getting pretty concerned yesterday. i've just never experienced three days in a row of barely being able to run 3 or 4 miles out of myself, and having it feel like i was bonking the whole time. i still really have no idea what happened, but today's run felt normal thank goodness. i'm on the road tomorrow and i'll probably only run a couple of miles once i get my camp site set up. then hopefully saturday i'll be able to run some miles, especially given the light load so far this week. also i'll be off line until late sunday...

3 miles - very easy. first trail run i've done in many months. i ran on a motorcycle trail near my campground (camping in the temple mountain area). got the run in around 5 pm - after driving all day and setting up camp.

10 miles on the motorcycle trail near camp. this was a particularly challenging run for me because i haven't done any trail running for awhile and this one had lots of climbs and descents, lots of soft sandy terrain, as well as plenty of rocky technical sections. i feel like this run is just what i needed to break up my routine and fill in an easy week with an hour and fifty three minutes of challenge. i started the run at 10 am and it was getting pretty hot (80F) by the time i finished. 11:23 avg.
