"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

12.2 miles / 3.1mile warmup, 5k, 6 mile run home. over a five week period i've run my best half marathon and one of my worse 5k's. i couldn't push at all today. maybe because i've been sick the last couple of weeks. when the first mile came in @ 7:32 i knew i was done. felt great on the run home though. grateful to be able to run miles. Annie ran too ~ a huge pr for her today as she's been putting in some consistency the last several weeks preparing for her first half marathon in september! met Kam for the first time, right before the race.

just one quick rant in the form of an observation ~ folks around here (davis county?) need to lighten up a little. everybody seems to be uptight, or nervous or something. are things really that bad nowadays? i feel like i'm missing out on some tragic news that everyone else is privy too.

Count it as another race under your belt! I did a 5K not long ago with a 5K warm-up (I ran the course). I also did not feel like I ran the race I should have. I think that was way too much warm-up (For me anyway).

From Kelli on Wed, Jul 04, 2012 at 10:44:41 from 67.172.235.55

Stupid uptight people! No fun when everyone around you is miserable!

Have a GREAT rest of the day, glad that the second part of your running today felt good. ;o)

From Andy on Wed, Jul 04, 2012 at 11:21:31 from 174.52.172.236

Davis County people are very uptight. Anything in particular happen? Regardless of how the race went, you had a good day of running.

From JD on Wed, Jul 04, 2012 at 12:06:09 from 70.96.78.149

IJR - thanks. i've noticed lately (maybe because of age) that it takes me a good 3 to 4 miles in my training runs before i feel good and ready to go, so i figure i need to get to at least that state before a short race.

thanks a lot Kelli - i guess i'm feeling grumpy today. :-)

hey Andy - no one particular incident or anything. just a general vibe. maybe i expect too much when i greet another runner, or walker on the road. just seems like everyone's got there heads glued to the sidewalk and are afraid to look at you. mostly though, i think it's a lot of peoples willingness to run me over so they can get to their burger and fries a second or two quicker. lol! some days i just let stuff like that get to me.

From Scott Wesemann on Wed, Jul 04, 2012 at 12:35:48 from 75.162.70.176

Great day and another nice week for you. Have a good 4th. Maybe people need to drink more round here. :)

From Rob Murphy on Wed, Jul 04, 2012 at 13:37:06 from 24.10.249.165

As someone who can frequently be grumpy, this conversation interests me. It does sometimes seem to me like our whole country is in some sort of massive funk.

Scott, plenty of beverages served free on my dead lawn tonight while we watch fireworks.Should help lighten me up at least.

From Kelli on Wed, Jul 04, 2012 at 14:14:20 from 67.172.235.55

Well, I will be the chipper one! All of the runners and bikers out here are so dang friendly. Everyone says hi to everyone else and smiles. The bikers used to be quite rude a few years ago, but now all of the bikers are either injured runners or runners who want to do tri's---so they are nice.

So, moral of the story, move to Herriman. We do not have a flower shop, just the occasional fire.

From Lysa on Wed, Jul 04, 2012 at 15:31:33 from 67.166.122.134

Um... JD, have you seen yourself??!! They are frightened of you! You're like some heathen freak show to say the least!! Take it personal JD.. Bc it IS personal. Very personal. And no matter where you move, your face will stay the same. Sorry.

Also, Awesome run today!! Tell Annie Congrats!! She rocks! As do you.

From Kam on Wed, Jul 04, 2012 at 16:37:11 from 65.130.26.80

Kelli, everyone smiles at you because you are a cute girl. When guys like me and JD try to be friendly, the results are a bit more surly. It's likely JD's visage, and my imposing physique that makes them frightened.

From Kelli on Wed, Jul 04, 2012 at 18:07:17 from 67.172.235.55

I can see that clearly now that you mention it, Kam.

From JD on Wed, Jul 04, 2012 at 18:52:26 from 65.130.170.7

haha! you all are awesome - thanks.

Scott - it might help. i'm a one a day kind of guy (okay sometimes 2), but i make it count!

Rob - i wish i lived closer - i'd be recycling those beverages back onto your lawn to green it up a bit. :-)

Stop it Kelli! hey wait, no flower shop? i smell an opportunity!

thanks Lysa, i can always count on you to prop me up!

Kam - lol! it's true! cute girls get away with murder, and i'm inclined to let them.

nice racing JD! Give yourself a break esp since you were sick for so long.

Way to run 12+.

Today I ran without music and I smiled and said hi to everyone I saw. I usually do that anyway but with music.

So there's a guy that runs around here that NEVER acknowledges me out running. I ran past him on the trail the other day and we practically ran in to each other and still NOTHING. Just looking straight ahead, don't even know if he has music. Why does this bug me? I was thinking..."I swear, if this guy came upon me on this trail and I was down and needed help I think he would just jump right over me and keep on running." that's judgemental and rude maybe but that's what I thought. Be friendly people!

From Lysa on Thu, Jul 05, 2012 at 11:15:35 from 67.166.122.134

Stacie I know who that guy is!! It's Heidi Vincents husband..He won't acknowledge me either no matter how loud I have said "HI!" to him. And he's not deaf, so that leaves only one other option..he's a douchebag. hahaha! nah..maybe he has good reason to be unfriendly..I don't know what, but you never know.

From Kelli on Thu, Jul 05, 2012 at 11:25:17 from 67.172.235.55

If you trip him, he will acknowledge you!

From Stacie on Thu, Jul 05, 2012 at 18:58:20 from 67.186.246.187

lol kelli! I think I'll try it.
