Eeee zeee 8, one mile grassy loops at Ellison park in Layton. 6x30 sec. striders barefoot in the grass at the end. 

This was the first time I've run barefoot. About a half mile total. I found that running very fast was easier than running very slow while barefoot. When I ran slow, my heel would feel it more on the landing. When I ran faster I would land more mid-foot and that felt more natural and smooth.

Nice week of running - I love that you are trying barefoot!

I sometimes get a sore achilles (I ruptured it 5 or 6 years ago). I find that certain shoes are not good for it, so you may want to experiment which shoes bother you and which ones don't. I solved my problem by using a low healed shoe. I still run short easy days in cushioned high healed shoes, and I can feel my achilles tighten when I do. I rarely experience achilles soreness from low healed, modestly cushioned shoes. Everyone is different, so it may not work for you, but it is something to think about if you continue to have problems.

p.s. - I never have achilles soreness while running barefoot, I think it is a good thing to do for strengthening it.

Ouch! Rupturing an achilles must have been extremely painful. Thanks for the advice. I'm using three different models of shoe now, it seems the trainers feel a little better. But I'll be paying closer attention now.

Barefoot in the grass, eh. I had to run across a bit of grass today and it was hard. Maybe it would have been easier if I had taken my shoes off.

Barefoot running is great. I used to finish all my workouts that way in St. Louis. Just haven't picked back up the habit here, yet...

Just the striders were barefoot.

Carolyn - it actually was easier in the grass once the shoes were off.

Kelli - you beat me in every other way so why not the miles too. Lol!

Snoqualmie - After taking a closer look at the five fingers, I don't think they're for me. Maybe the Nike Free's someday, or Newton's are looking pretty good for the cause.

Lysa - Great 5k today!! I lost my job and now I have to run barefoot 'cause I can't afford shoes! Lol!
