"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

Easy medium-long run. 14.2 miles / 9:04 avg. Cloudy, sunny, light rain at times, low 40's. Was planning on a longer run but the body wouldn't cooperate so I cut it short. I'm fine with having an off day. What concerns me though is the idea that an off day could fall on race day. If I felt like this in the first ten miles of a marathon, I'd have to just drop out.

Happy to get in the miles today in spite of the lack of energy and heavy legs.

No computer access for me until tomorrow night. What will I do with all that free time?

I think the purpose of the taper is to keep you from having an off day like that on race day. Still, I suppose it could happen.

Enjoy your free time.

i often think that same thing. 99% of the days that i run, i do not feel up to running 26.2 miles at MP. a lot of it is mental preparation. when the body knows it has to perform, it usually will (even if you crash and burn, you probably made it farther and faster than you would have on a normal training run). obviously the physical preparation is important, but i am convinced that there is more weight to the mental aspects.

Carolyn - that's the mystery though. Last week, I ran the same mileage, and took Friday off just like this week, and I ran 16 miles on Saturday and felt much stronger throughout the run. So I wonder why today's run was so different. Diet? Chemical imbalance? Juju? Yeah, I just don't know.

Allie - thanks. I like that approach. I think our lives are more driven by psychological factors than we realize.

It wont, bc races give you adreneline that a regular run doesnt. BUT having said that, we all have the same concern.

That is nice to read because, as I bonking bad today, I was thinking, "How in the heck did I run over a full minute faster per mile for 26.2 miles????" I was baffled.

Maybe today was the day for lead leg running. Maybe their was something in the air holding us all back? Dunno, but next week will be better!

Enjoy your free time! Read a book or something.
