"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

5 miles / Ran a 5k in Centerville with a 2 mile warm up before the race. Ran it 30 seconds slower than last year. I'm fine with it because I haven't been training well, and last night, this is no exaggeration, I literally slept about an hour. I took some allergy meds around 11:00 PM. Usually I fall asleep before they kick in so it's not an issue, but last night for some reason I didn't fall asleep at my usual time and just tossed and turned until the wee hours of the morning. Then I had to get up for the race.

It was a lot of fun though. Lysa and her husband Scott ran, as well as Scott's brother  (my old buddy Gary), and my wife Annie. This is the second year in a row that we've all done this (Gary's first year), so it's dangerously close to becoming a tradition. Good start to the weekend. Achilles made no protest at all (maybe just the slightest tweaking, maybe). A good little workout for me.

I think you did awesome considering NO sleep! Good job making it a 5 miler day instead of a 3.1 I should have done that. Oh well, good times. Fun to see you guys as always.

I think this particular 5k is a good tradition. The Sandy city one is around a mall parking lot..worst run EVER! Plus the Centerville one goes to a cause.

Great morning! now go lie down.

Sounds like a nice tradition. Now take a nap.

It is so fun to run with friends and family. What a great way to start off a holiday morning.

I have the same problems with allergies right now and I am the same...usually, if I take an allergy pill at night it knocks me out. However, every night before a race, I toss and turn until the alarm goes off! Anxiety! ha! Sounded like a great run!
