"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

How did you get 50 degree weather? Oh yeah, they said on the news this morning that the cold is only east of the continental divide.

Barefoot on the grass at Emerald Park sounds enchanting.

Haha, that does sound enchanting. I keep forgetting to look for a sign that has the parks real name on it. I just call it Emerald park because of it's location.

50 degrees is at 11:00 AM. It's been in the mid to low 30's in the early mornings. We're about 10 degrees cooler than normal lately.

It is still warm enough by you to run barefoot? I'm jealous!

From april27 on Thu, Oct 08, 2009 at 21:39:55 from 99.188.251.180

Oh and do you think the barefoot running helped you with your marathon?

From JD on Thu, Oct 08, 2009 at 22:20:25 from 209.183.51.43

April - oh yeah, plenty warm for barefoot, just cold enough to actually feel good on the feet.

I just started doing short (1/2 mile) barefoot runs, like once a week for a few weeks before my marathon, so I don't believe it made any difference. I look at barefoot running as a very long term goal to strengthen my feet, improve my form, and someday save me a couple of bucks on running shoes.

JD, please admit that your feet are frozen after running barefoot! I think I will do barefoot only on the treadmill in winter.

From JD on Fri, Oct 09, 2009 at 15:08:20 from 70.96.78.157

Auntieem - I'm not going to run barefoot in the snow, unless I've had a few and there are pretty girls to impress!:-)

I'm looking forward to trying some barefoot on the treadmill soon.
