"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

I guess no run for me today.

PM edit: I guessed wrong.

6 miles / 50:42 / 8:27 avg.

After running like a chicken with its head cut off all day at work, I came home and ran like a hamster on a wheel. After 2.75 mile warm up I did 6 x .25 mi. w/.25 recovery, then .5 mile cool down. The quarters were run at progressively faster paces with the recovery at just under 9 mpm. Interval splits:8:00, 7:30, 7:14, 7:04, 6:54, 6:40. I wasn't looking for a workout, just a way to get through a treadmill run without becoming comatose.

It's because of the hard core example that many of my fellow bloggers set that I opted not to wimp out on doing a run today. Though I did settle for the treadmill instead of outdoors.

Well after the day you had yesterday I"m sure a day of rest won't hurt!

Nice intervals there!!! I hear you about the treadmill, you have to sit and push buttons on the machine to keep you going! I am super impressed with those quarters. I am not sure i could do one that fast. I can do 6:13 for a tenth of a mile, but I almost dies. So 6:40 for twice+ as long would probably not happen.

Nice job today. I am glad you got all of your work done so you could play on the treadmill.

Thanks Kelli - speedwork is kind of a mystery to me. My fastest mile currently is 6:37, for a full mile, yet it seems so hard to pull off a quarter mile at 6:40 pace. Weird.

Pretty speedy for the treadmill. I was a hamster today also... hope it warms up soon.

I KNOW I could not run a mile that fast, aside from my one downhill mile last week. But that almost killed me, and it was downhill!!! Plus, I run so much slower on the treadmill, yet I feel like I am working so darn hard. Do you feel that way??

Thanks Lori. Brrrr!!!!

Kelli - yeah, I think perceived effort counts for something on the treadmill. It makes those road runs seem that much better.

Hamster on a wheel. Runners are insane.
