"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

Easy eight. 8:51 avg. Bluff trail. Sunny, 45F.

Calf loosened up nicely as the run progressed.

Lot's of  grasshoppers on the parkway. Apparently, committing suicide by bike is popular amongst the grasshoppers...

It's a great day for eight.

Grasshopper suicide by bike, eh. Maybe if the pioneers had more bikes, they wouldn't have needed seagulls. Oh, but those were crickets. Maybe bikes don't work with crickets.

they all had a meeting and decided to go kill themselves today..they did, i was there.

From allie on Wed, Oct 07, 2009 at 15:49:33 from 67.177.43.41

crickets prefer death by roller skates. at least that's what i've heard... i will have to get the minutes from lysa's meeting to be sure. but i think the cricket suicide occurred last week. up until wednesday i could hear them chirping as i fell asleep. now...nothing. suspicions of an insect cult.

Thanks all for the dialogue on grasshopper suicide. It's a bigger problem than people know.

Funny thing, I saw two caterpillars out there crossing the parkway. Now, caterpillars are very slow movers, but I didn't see one squished caterpillar on the parkway. Grasshoppers are lightning quick, and can leap, yet, I saw dozens of grasshopper corpses...conclusion: suicide!

Caterpillers are very very smart.

All I can say is YAHOOO!! I also seen a bunch of squished grasshoppers of my neck of the Ogden River Parkway. There were still one or two jumping out and trying to grab me.
