Running Accomplishments:

Completed three marathons, all at St. George in '95, '99, '03. The "fastest" marathon was around 4:21.

Have run numerous road races, slow times abound. Have run the Wasatch Steeplechase twice. It's a great 18 mile mountain run in the hills above Salt Lake.

Didn't know how to train when I ran these,  3 or 4 days a week, 25-35 miles a week, a couple of 20 milers.

I really don't have much natural ability when it comes to running. Right now I'm just trying to build a solid base of mileage and try to improve my speed off that, something I've never tried before.

When I picked up running again this year (early Spring '08), after about 5 years of relative inactivity, I had weighed 192 pds (I'm 6'0" tall), the heaviest weight of my life. That was one of the reasons I decided to start running again. I'm down to 170 pds now.

Right now my pace on my runs is hovering around the 9 mpm range. Stayed tuned, faster times coming up!

 

Short-Term Running Goals:

Maintain a good mileage base over this winter (50-60 mpw)

Stay healthy. Avoid injury.

Carefully implement some speedwork into my runs throughout the winter, things like striders, tempo runs and such. I don't have a lot of experience training this way, so it will be a learning process.

Do some time trials in November/December, 1 mile/5k/10k/10 mile to get an idea of what, if anything, I have to work with.

Run a half marathon this Spring.

Break 3:45 in a marathon in the Fall of '09.

 

Long-Term Running Goals:

Stay healthy, avoid injury.

Keep running and enjoying the many benefits of a healthy lifestyle as I get older...and older...

Tour of the hood. Made my way to the school field, 2 miles on the grass, then a meandering route back home. Really nice temps.

Felt great, especially after running just last night, a twelve hour turnover. This is new to me. Twice this week I did the late in the day/then again the next morning runs. It's my way of preparing my body for some two a days sometime in the not too distant future.

Good for you on the doubles! I've only done it once and it didn't feel very good. In fact, I spent a lot of the 2nd run wondering if I am a complete idiot. But actually the next morning did feel ok, just as yours did. I think your workouts look great.
