"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

6 miles / 9:08 avg. Recovery run. Overcast, 47 degrees, light wind/rain at times. Took the dog down to the 1/2 mile track at the mystery field. Legs felt a little heavy the first couple of miles but everything loosened up nicely by the end. I ran the 6th mile barefoot on the grass with some striders thrown in. It felt so good to get those huge, cushiony, wave riders off my feet and run barefoot! Quite a contrast. I think the Mizuno's are going to be relegated to trail running shoes only.

Great job with the barefoot running and all.

Just wondering: why do you call it the mystery field?

From JD on Mon, Mar 08, 2010 at 11:58:51 from 70.96.78.157

It's the mystery field because for a year or so I would run by it on one of my routes from home. It was fenced and one day I discovered how to get in. It didn't have any signs or anything so I didn't know what to call it (I've since learned what it's called and who owns it, but I like calling it "Mystery Field" still).

is it waiting to take you away?

Lysa - no. That's a job for Calgon.

I imagine the mystery field as your own private running spot! So glad you enjoyed the barefoot part; its been warm enough here for me to do that a bit on the track for cool down. Feels great!

Barefoot---it is SO COLD!!!! Take care of your tootsies, keep 'em nice and warm.

Thanks for taking 5 pounds for me, I appreciate it!
