"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

Had to put one of our dogs down this morning (Farley). She was a great dog and we shared many adventures over the last nearly 10 years. Everybody loved her, she was a real sweet dog.

Lunch time run. Mostly cloudy,  40F, wind at 15 mph. Jensen park/Syracuse trail.

The run really helped to clear my head today, grateful to be a runner.

Did sort of a tempo run...I guess. After 4 miles easy I ran the last 4 faster. Here's the splits:

1 - 8:33

2 - 8:45

3 - 8:45

4 - 8:42

5 - 8:18

6 - 8:08

7 - 7:59

8 - 8:19

1:07:27/8:26 avg.

I felt better today than I have all week. Next week I'll try an actual tempo workout. I didn't have anything planned for todays run and it just sort of went this way.

I'm so sorry about your dog. I'm glad that running has a restorative effective.

Your run sounds like what Hudson would call a moderate progression run. Isn't it great when you feel strong?

Thanks Carolyn.

Ahhh, a moderate progression run. That has a nice ring to it.

Two more weeks till Moab! Wish I was going, maybe next year.

My condolences on the loss of your sweet dog. It's very hard to lose these little friends of ours, which we all inevitably do since we outlive them.

Thanks Snoqualmie. This is the third dog I've had put down. It doesn't get any easier. I do think my dogs live pretty good, full dog lives with me, so I can take solace in that.
