"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

Getting out the door at 5:00 AM for my run this morning had nothing to do with diligence, or necessity. It had everything to do with INSOMNIA. Around 4:30 am I decided to get up and get the run in before I was too tired to run at all.

This is the furthest distance since I starting running again last year. I think it went okay. I took the "run your long runs 1 to 2 minutes slower than your regular pace" recommendation to heart this morning as I focused on staying relaxed, steady, and mentally strong. Good weather with clear skies, about 30 degrees and some light winds. Lots of birds chirping, I think they're getting psyched for Spring too.

5:00 on a Sunday morning. Amazing. I'm sorry it had to do with insomnia, though. At least you put that insomnia to good use.

Congratulations on your 18 miler. That's the farthest I've gone to date.

Great miles, JD! I think 18 is easier at 5 AM than later in the morning. Just my weird little theory.

Thanks Carolyn. I did check my cadence today (on the road intead of the treadmill), and it's still below 160...so maybe I'll work on that a little.

Snoqualmie - for sure it's easier at 5:00 am. By the time I got home, showered, eaten some food, made coffee...it was like I hadn't even run at all because the day was just beginning...I was hoping you would run further today and keep me off the top of the mileage board. Oh well come Saturday, you'll find me 3 or 4 pages back, where I belong! Lol!

I got there today, JD. But Mr. Mandler will soon kick me back where *I* belong. We Sunday runners often get our comeuppance on the Mileage Board!
