"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

am - 10 miles / Bluff trail. Sun, 36F. This was an easy paced run. I was jogging along the bluff trail pretty slowly. At about mile 5 1/2 a runner passed me going the opposite direction. At around mile 6 1/4 I turned around and saw that he was now running the same direction as me and was less than a quarter mile back. I'm not competitive but I like using other runners to boost my own performance. So to make a long story short, the first 6 miles I averaged a 9:37 per mile pace. The last 4 miles I averaged 8:28 per mile. Avg. for the run: 9:09.

pm - 5 miles at the MFT with both dogs. Dark, cold. 9:18 avg.

Since I infrequently run 70 miles in a one week period, please forgive my indulgent display of celebration: woo-hoo.

Spaz. Nice work JD, Sometimes I wish I had a little of that in me. I know you're not competitive, but that's cool you allowed it to help you. ME on the other hand, would have just let them go.

Its OK to admit you're competitive. Rock on!

Congrats on the huge mile marker!! If i am near someone else while running, how cute they are determines my "competitiveness" factor...
