"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

A fun filled ride on the fire break road today. The pace was slow but strong. Felt reallt good today. The run was like a day at the amusement park, up and down, feeling the wind in my face, legs getting tired from walking around from ride to ride.

The last couple of miles I detached from my body and rode on the merry-go-round, but instead of carnival music playing in the background, it was Ozzy Osborne singing "I'm going through changes..."

Running is like drugs only much, much better, and less costly.

Sounds like you've been getting a heavy dose of LSD (long slow distance ...).

It kind of felt like that today. Seriously when I got back to the car, I was a little worried about driving...has anyone ever been arrested for driving under the influence...of endorphins?

Great to read about your enjoyable running! I feel the same way. And to think some people don't like it - sheesh! Poor dears. I can't remember: are you preparing for a race right now?

From JD on Wed, Sep 17, 2008 at 11:33:02

Snoqualmie, I won't be racing till this Spring. Right now I'm just trying to build a solid aerobic base-without getting injured or sick. Then I'll go for a half marathon in March (Moab Half?) and use that to guage my workouts as I prepare for a marathon in the Fall.

Great! Sounds fun and very doable. Thanks again for all your encouragement.

MMMMM sweet endorphins... love it when I get them but they are a tricky drug. Sometimes they show up... other times you are left wishing you could find some to help get the run over LOL Enjoy them when you get them.

Lori, yeah, wouldn't it be nice if we could develop endorphin GU or something. Those few runs where everything goes right are one of the many reasons I like to run.
