"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

630 AM, clear, 65 degrees (nice). House/hood/LPT.

Easy eight.

11:15 AM. Sunny, 79 degrees, humidity 29%. One mile boardwalk loops at the nature preserve. This location is ideal for 2nd runs in that the surface is flat and soft, and the environment is peaceful, quiet, and traffic free.

4.5 miles. As always my pace was notoriously...slow.

Is the heat really cleansing??? Really? Where is the nature preserve? I have seen one in Ogden.

Great job so far this week. Hope you are feeling good!

You like those 8-milers, don't you.

Kelli - you know the feeling after a run in the heat, after the sweating is over, and you're spent, and the body starts to cool...

With the great salt lake just to the west of us here in Davis county, there's a large wetland preserve to protect the habitat, and many little public access points, lookouts, nature trails etc dotted throughout the preserve. I just discovered this particular one a few months ago. They're not advertised or anything.

Carolyn - yeah, I should come up with a nickname...

Hopefully next year, 12-milers will be like this years 8-milers. :-)

I have never experienced that, I have more of a "my head is buzzing and I think I might die" kind of feeling in the heat! You must be gifted or lucky!

I'll trade you your speed gene for my heat tolerance gene. Straight across. Let me know.

From Kelli on Tue, Jul 07, 2009 at 18:40:48 from 71.219.89.21

Can I just make the trade for 3 months out of the year?

In all seriousness, though, thanks! I am actually starting to feel kind of fast, not elite, just kind of fast. There are two women in our group who are SO fast, and I kept up with them for like 200 yards today (out of 10 miles, that is not bad).

Good for you, two a days! I love when I get to do that, it feels so good. Right now, the coach for my group sort of frowns on it because we are doing so much strength training.
