"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

4.2 miles. From work, 10:30 AM. Sun 68F. Just out assessing the immediate effect from yesterday's long run. No soreness, which makes sense because though I ran pretty far yesterday, I ran at a very easy pace. I am fatigued though, very much so. Interesting challenge on today's run as I felt as though I would drop off to sleep at any moment. I don't feel tired, it feels like an exhaustion welling up into my head, threatening to knock me out on a whim.

that's crazy. Go take a nap, or just go lay down. Go rent a funny movie and laugh yourself silly to sleep. You deserve to rest.

Excellent long run yesterday, JD!! I know what you mean about feeling the bonking feeling kicking in, and about overcoming it. I did that Saturday as well, just kept going and rallied! What are you eating on your long runs? I am still challenged by the calorie requirements, and haven't found the perfect food.

HaHa, exhaustion welling up into your head!

Wait are you my grandpa? LOL

April - I just changed that yesterday. Thanks for noticing. (I am old enough to be your father, in Utah anyway!)

Auntieem - Ditto. I'm learning that low points within a long run aren't the end, and they'll eventually go away, just can't let them psych you out. I use Gu a lot. I've been trying to get 200 calories an hour. More would probably feel even better but it's all I can do to eat one of those things every half hour. I also tried this stuff called "EFS". It comes in a little 5 oz. container that's easy to carry. It packs a punch with 400 calories and 100 g of carbs! Plus a good dose of potassium and sodium. It's probably not good for the pancreas to get kicked like that though.
