"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

16 miles / 8:30 avg. commute to work via the clark/glovers/red barn/riogrande route. 12 miles @ mp today. i've been thinking about this run all week and am glad it went as planned. i still don't know how i can possibly be expected to run this pace for a full marathon, but that's a concern for another day i guess. before the run i ate a half banana, a couple of cups of coffee, a little water. no food or water during the run - no problem.

2 mi. wu @ 9:21 avg

12 miles @ mp (goal 8:15 per mile) i ended up with an 8:12 avg. i felt a big energy drop suddenly in mile 7 and it's reflected in my split, but i wasn't stressed because i knew i had plenty of seconds in the bank and the lull was short lived. the last two miles of the tempo were tough. splits: 8:05, 8:10, 8:15, 8:11, 8:11, 8:12, 8:24 (gasp!), 8:07 (phew!), 8:13, 8:09, 8:17, 8:13.

2 mile cool down @ 9:24 avg.

a good end to another solid week.

Very Nice Run! You can do that relatively easily for the Marathon! Think how much stronger you'll be after some resting.

Good Job!

you are solid. Holy crap. That is fast to run that many miles consecutively. {did I spell that word right?} anyway..Awesome job JD! I'm glad it went well! You're rocking the running sauce and the kool aid. rock on.

way to go, JD. that is an excellent run, especially after a big week. you are well prepared for the salmon.

sheesh. You ran twice as many miles as me this week. you rock!

Good job on your 16! Woo hoo! Salmon!

Marathon fueling is so tricky. Long runs don't quite prepare you for the duration, and when you run out, watch out.

As far as maintaining that pace over the full course, add in your gentle downhill course, race day adrenaline, having people to chase and pass, and a proper taper and you are there, JD.

Keep drinking the koolaid!

good reminder Kam - i'll have to ingest some calories along the way, and earlier than i would be inclined to.
