"Engaging in a little suffering — however self-imposed, arbitrary and contrived — before breakfast each morning tends to demand some humility and injects some marked relief into the rest of the day, making things sharper, more inspired, more immediately aware of the powerful presence of being. And that seems really worthwhile." A. Krupicka

"I cruised down hills, churned up hills, and floated over the asphalt, existing in a world that seemed to lack the confinements of such ubiquitous rivets as time, obligation, or pain. I knew then that this was destined to be one of those serendipitous runs for which so many of
us strive yet so rarely achieve." J. Nevels

3 miles - easy st. out and back. last mile@7:47. a few days ago i decided to bail on the striders 30k this morning. i've got a list of excuses but basically i just wimped out. i'm in a mental swamp lately and decided to not stress about making the long drive, dealing with the weather (which turned out pretty ideal this morning, of course), lack of sleep etc. and just set my sights on the ogden marathon in three weeks. i'm hoping to get a last long run in early this week, then "taper". i don't have much to taper from but it is what it is. just grateful to be healthy and running.

Well don't beat yourself up about it. You're running has been kicking butt and you're really strong even though you may feel weak. So nice job. And I'll see you tonight. YAY HUGS! puke.

"YAY HUGS! puke." -- that sounds just like a line from my wedding vows.

i think you made a good call, JD. clearing out the mental swamp is an important aspect of the taper.
